Sibu

Sarawak's river city! Because of its location at the confluence of the Rajang and Igan rivers, Sibu is a busy transportation hub with boats coming in and leaving all throughout the day.

Many visitors will visit Sibu as a stopover on the way to Miri, Kuching or Kapit. If you travel by land or water to any of these destinations it is very likely that you will stop in Sibu.

The major tourism event for Sibu is the annually held Borneo Cultural Festival which celebrates the foods and traditions of the three major ethnic groups of Sibu (Chinese, Dayak and Malay). The festival is held every July.

While Sibu does not have a great deal to offer the average tourist, if you happen to stay in town for an extended period, it is worthwhile to check out the busy port area and the local produce market. Close to the port area you will find the Tua Pek Kong Temple which is also an interesting landmark to visit.
