<p>In a joint statement Friday, the airlines said Malaysia Airlines will code share on Royal Brunei Airlines&#8217; twice daily services between Bandar Seri Begawan and Kota Kinabalu and twice weekly services between Bandar Seri Begawan and Kuching.</p>
<p>The two airlines have been code sharing on flights between Bandar Seri Begawan and <a href='/kuala-lumpur-city.html' title='A metropolitan city with a storied past, Kuala Lumpur boasts a stunning mix of modern luxuries and cultural sensibilities.'>Kuala Lumpur</a> since 2004.</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;We are delighted to expand our partnership with Royal Brunei as Borneo is a popular destination for North American and North Asian tourists,&#8221; said Malaysia Airlines&#8217; commercial director Datuk Rashid Khan.</p></blockquote>

<p>Royal Brunei Airlines&#8217; senior vice president of commercial, sales and marketing, Wong Peng Hoon, said the airline will be able to effectively make travel to Borneo seamless for passengers with the code share on <a href='/sabah-state.html' title='Home to one of the world&#39;s most recongnisable animals, the Orang Utan, Sabah is a nature lover&#39;s paradise.'>Sabah</a> and <a href='/sarawak-state.html' title='Born from a man&#39;s dream, this land of natural treasures has come a long way since the era of the White Rajahs.'>Sarawak</a>.</p>
<p>Passengers, he said, will also be able to take advantage of the increased number of flights into Borneo and access the booking facilities of both airlines.</p>

<p>The agreement enables Malaysia Airlines to codeshare on SriLankan’s flights to Male in the Maldives while SriLankan Airlines will access Los Angeles, Sydney, Melbourne, Jakarta, and Seoul through Malaysia Airlines.</p>
<p>Malaysia Airlines general manager, government and industry relations, Mr. Germal Singh said:</p>

This will provide our customers with easy access to the Maldives, a favorite destination among high-end tourists from Europe and Asia, while enabling us to further enhance our loads to the major cities in North America, Asia, and Australia. <a href='/kuala-lumpur-city.html' title='A metropolitan city with a storied past, Kuala Lumpur boasts a stunning mix of modern luxuries and cultural sensibilities.'>Kuala Lumpur</a>’s position as a key gateway for travelers will also be strengthened.”</p></blockquote>

<p>SriLankan’s head of worldwide sales, Mr. Mohamed Fazeel said: “SriLankan is making a clear effort to strengthen our relationships with award-winning airlines in Asia, which is home to the finest airlines in the world. Both Malaysian and SriLankan have a history of winning global accolades for service, and we have no doubt that this partnership will be of significant mutual benefit to both airlines and most importantly to our respective passengers. The partnership gives SriLankan access to several markets in the Asia-Pacific, notably the US west coast and Australia.”</p>
<p>Members of the frequent-flyer programs of the two airlines, Malaysia Airlines’ <a href="http://www.enrich.malaysiaairlines.com/">Enrich</a> and SriLankan <a href="http://wwi.srilankan.aero/frequent_flyer/frequent_flyer.asp">FlySmiLes</a>, can also earn and redeem points on flights of either airline. The codeshare is effective beginning June 25, 2009. Tickets for some of the destinations are already available in the market.</p>
<p>The two airlines have been codesharing between Kuala Lumpur and Colombo since 1999.</p>

<p>Malaysia Airlines will have access into Turkey, Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States and North Africa while Turkish Airlines will gain access into Malaysia, Southeast Asia and Asia Pacific.</p>

<p>There will be 2 phases to this code share agreement; phase one will see Turkish Airlines code sharing on Malaysia Airlines&#8217; flights between <a href='/kuala-lumpur-city.html' title='A metropolitan city with a storied past, Kuala Lumpur boasts a stunning mix of modern luxuries and cultural sensibilities.'>Kuala Lumpur</a> and Istanbul. Malaysia Airlines connects to Istanbul via Dubai 2X weekly, on Tuesday and Friday.</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;We are pleased to partner with Turkish Airlines to provide our passengers with convenient and seamless services. In addition, with the strong feeder traffic from Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States and North Africa into Istanbul, we can expect robust passenger and revenue growth,&#8221; said Malaysia Airlines Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer, Dato&#8217; Sri Idris Jala.</p></blockquote>
<p>Malaysia Airlines expects to offer 3X weekly direct flights from Istanbul by the end of this year.</p>

<p>In phase 2, Malaysia Airlines expects to code share on Turkish Airlines&#8217; flights into the domestic points in Turkey, Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States and North Africa. ?</p>
<p>In return, Turkish Airlines will code share on Malaysia Airlines&#8217; flights into domestic points in Malaysia, Southeast Asia and Asia Pacific.</p>
<p>The two airlines are also working out an arrangement for a reciprocal frequent flyer programme between Malaysia Airlines&#8217; Enrich and Turkish Airlines&#8217; Miles and Smiles.</p>
<p>To commemorate the signing ceremony, Malaysia Airlines is offering a promotional all inclusive return fare of RM2,274 from Kuala Lumpur to Istanbul until 30th June 2009.</p>
