“Lada and tourism operators including hotels had launched the tour package in London,” he said, here, today.

Azmil Munif said the seven-day/six-night package for two at 2,000 British pounds included accommodation at a five-star hotel, spa treatment, a boat cruise around the Langkawi group of islands and a visit to the Geopark.

The package runs from May 1 to Nov 30, 2012.

Azmil Munif hoped the package would encourage tourists from Britain to stay longer and spend more here, in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s announcement when tabling th 2012 Budget to make Langkawi among the world’s top 10 tourist island destinations.

He said that last year, 103,000 British tourists visited Langkawi while tourists from the European continent numbered 350,000.
