More Flights From Taiwan

Taiwan, for better or worse, is a one of a kind country, if it can be considered a country. Due to its past and thorny connection to mainland China, Taiwan and its citizens many encounter more difficulty when travelling abroad, especially to a country that does not officially recognise it. In any case, Taiwan and Malaysia have always had good relations, and citizens from both countries often holiday in each other’s country. There is a genuine interest in Taiwan among Malaysians, and the inverse also holds true.

A recent article carried the news that Taiwan’s largest airline, China Airlines, has introduced a second route to KL International Airport with the new service from Kaohsiung. The airlines already operates daily flights between Taipei and Kuala Lumpur. It is interesting to note that Malaysia welcomes a large number of both Taiwanese and Chinese tourists annually, all without incident. That goes to show that the problems between Taiwan and China are indeed, political, and not a feud between their people.

Taiwan’s largest airline, China Airlines, has introduced a second route to KL International Airport (KLIA) with the new service from Kaohsiung effective Wednesday.

It will be flying on the Kaohsiung-Kuala Lumpur route every Wednesday and Saturday utilizing the B737-800 aircraft with 158 seats configuration. The flight duration takes approximately four hours and 20 minutes.

Currently, China Airlines operates daily flights between Taipei and Kuala Lumpur.

Speaking after a welcome reception to commemorate China Airlines’ inaugural flight from Kaohsiung here, Malaysia Airports Chief Operating Officer Datuk Abdul Hamid Mohd Ali said the new service would increase connectivity for KLIA.

“The tourism attraction and business opportunities in both countries will certainly ensure the success of this new flight,” he said.

China Airlines General Manager for Malaysia Edward Wang Chia Chuan said his company expected to increase the frequency of flights from Kaohsiung to Kuala Lumpur from twice a week to daily as soon as possible.
