Who Wants Free Air Tickets?

April 5, 2011 at 12:04 pm

Very catchy title eh? According to a recent news report in the Star, Malaysians are getting the chance to win free tickets to over 100 destinations, courtesy of Qatar Airways. Seems that the airline is celebrating its 100th destination launch. As usual, there are terms and conditions attached to this seemingly great promotion, so always be careful and read the small print.

Fly away to your favourite destinations, FREE!

If there is one thing that Malaysians cannot seem to resist, it is free or cheap items. Whenever Air Asia announces a promotion offering free tickets, even though the flights are almost a year away, its website will be jammed packed with people trying to get their hands on a seat. Let us not forget the packed lines in front of McDonalds last month, when the fast food chain offered free McDonalds Big Breakfast with every RM 5 purchase.

A question does come to mind whenever this happens, do we really need to get an item just because it is free? It does seem like a natural instinct for us to just grab it since we do not have to pay anything for it. But what does this sort of take-it-since-it-is-free behaviour say about us? Are we so desperate that we cannot even afford to get these items on our own?

In conjunction with Qatar Airways 100th destination launch, an array of special offers and promotions awaits lucky winners.

On Wednesday, the Gulf carrier will begin scheduled flights to the ancient Syrian city of Aleppo, 14 years after the airline launched operations.

Malaysians can now sign up for the promotion on qatarairways.com/100 for a chance to win free tickets to over 100 destinations.

The airline has 100 pairs of Economy Class tickets to give away to lucky passengers.

Qatar Airways Holidays, the airline’s holiday division, is also introducing an attractive Doha stop-over package at special rates giving travellers a chance to explore the sights of Qatar before continuing to their onward destinations.

Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar Al Baker said the airline’s 100th route launch was a major milestone and the promotions were a way of saying ‘thank you’ to the travelling public.

“We are preparing to mark a great milestone of reaching 100 destinations, a remarkable achievement in the short few years we have been operating.

“This would not have been possible without the full support of our valued partners, be they travel agents, corporate and our leisure customers,” he said.

The 100th destination promotions are available worldwide in addition to offers already promoted throughout the airline’s extensive global route network such as the two for one offer on Wednesday and Thursday.

In addition, the airline’s frequent flyer loyalty programme, Privilege Club is offering members bonus Qmiles and a special discount on award tickets redeemed at qmiles.com.
