366 Hotels And Resorts Nationwide Get Halal Certification

A total of 366 hotels and resorts throughout the country have obtained the Malaysian ‘Halal’ certification to date, said the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom. He said of the total, 77 certificates were issued by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) while the remaining 289 were issued by the State Islamic Religious Departments (Jain).

“Out of the 366 hotels and resorts, 273 units or 74.59 per cent were rated three to five stars, 53 or 14.48 per cent were rated one to two stars while 40 units or 10.93 per cent were budget hotels,” he told reporters.

Earlier, Jamil Khir presented the Malaysian Halal Certification to Pullman Hotel and Thistle Hotel.

According to the record, there are 1,574 hotels and resorts in the country registered with the Tourism Ministry, of which, 412 are rated three to five stars.

Jamil Khir said all the 412 hotels which were rated three to five stars were targeted to obtain the Halal certification by the end of the year.
