Spas And Wellness Industry To Be New Focus In Malaysian Tourism – Minister

The spa and wellness industry which is now mushrooming in Malaysiay has a big potential to be be developed as a new attraction in the country’s tourism industry, says Tourism Minister Dr Ng Yen Yen.

According to a survey carried out in 2007 by Intelligent Spas, the number of spas in Malaysia had grown oby more than 200 per cent since 2002 and currentl, there were 170 spas operating with a small one capable of earning an average of 1,000 Ringgit (one USD = about 3.4 Ringgit) per day in sales and conference guests, she said Tuesday.

She noted that the combination of ancient Eastern therapeutic traditions with modern innovations within the spa services in the country had contributed to the development of the industry.

“I am glad to note that our spas are among the country’s most popular tourist attractions and many travel agencies specialise in spa tours for visitors seeking the ultimate relaxing and rejuvenating experience,”

she said when opening of The Spa and Med Beauty centre in Subang, near here.
