Celcom Malaysia Bhd, the country’s leading BlackBerry provider, targets to double the figure of 16,000 BlackBerry users recorded as of last year, by the middle of this year.
Its senior vice president (head of enterprise services) Farid Yunus said, the telco company already had more than 50 percent of the market share of BlackBerry users, and that the trend was set to increase following its move to reduce business costs through solutions it provides.
“Performance in the first quarter this year has shot up, so we are confident of doubling the figure by middle of the year,” he told reporters after the official launch of BlackBerry Storm and BlackBerry Curve 8900 in Sabah market, Tuesday.
“The sudden increase (in users’ figures) is because companies now are actively looking at how to reduce their costs in doing business.
“The corporate segment is willing to invest and expressed interest in these business solutions, so they are calling us (instead),” he added further.
Meanwhile, its general manager for Sabah region Mohammad Rozaidi Mohd Sharif said, their target is to add 1,000
new BlackBerry users in Sabah this year, and they have already registered 300 new users, to date.
For BlackBerry Storm, which is the world’s first ‘clickable’ touch screen smartphone, they are looking to register 200-250 users out of the total target of new users this year, he said.
