Lasting approximately eight weeks each year, the Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival is definitely the right time to shop. The Malaysian Mega Sale Carnival is an umbrella event held to promote Malaysia as a premier shopping destination within the South East Asian region and is used by many participating outlets to entice customers with various discounts and bargains. This event has been held annually since its initial run in 1999, having changed from being held three times annually to its present once yearly event in 2004.

Initially envisioned as a shopping 'Mardi Gras'-styled event with a carnivalesque atmosphere, each year's Mega Sale Carnival manages to attract a large number of retailers and shopping malls. Participating outlets usually fashion their own individual promotions and events, while the main promotion of the event is handled by the country's tourism body, Tourism Malaysia. Every year's carnival is launched with an elaborate opening ceremony held in the country's undisputed top shopping district, Bukit Bintang, in Kuala Lumpur. Other events are held in various parts of the country during the carnival.

An assortment of items and products are offered during the carnival period, with special tie-ins and discounts. Major chain retailers and malls, such as Suria KLCC, make use of the event to hold special events and promotions on a weekly basis.
