It is believed that during the seventh month, the Gates of Hell open allowing ghosts to wander the earth for one month. Ghosts with descendants will return to their homes and sure enough, they'll be hungry!

Families will lay out food for their deceased ancestor's spirits to consume as and sign of love and respect.
Public feasts and spreads of food are prepared at a market place or a hall for those ghosts who not have a home to return to. A fantastic display of candles, decorations and a magnificent shrine dedicated to the King of Hell - keeper of the ghosts - are set up for all passersby to see.
