MORE ABOUT THIS TOUR
Two breathtaking marvels await you in this tour – Kek Lok Si Temple, and Penang Hill. Arguably the largest Buddhist temple in South-east Asia, Kek Lok Si has evolved from a monk's inspiration into a magnificent and majestic temple complex. Kek Lok Si is situated on the foothills surrounding Penang Hill, the highest point in Penang and once an exclusive hillside retreat for the influential and wealthy during colonial times.
Itinerary
The tour starts at Kek Lok Si, a vast temple complex founded in 1890. Marvel at the beautiful and harmonious architecture of the buildings that incorporate elements of both the major sects of Buddhism, with a tinge of Taoist mysticism. Intricately carved statues of deities and religious figures adorn the chambers and alcoves of its many small temples within the temple, as worshippers and tourists alike make their way towards its latest addition, a magnificent 30 metre tall bronze statue of the Taoist Goddess of Mercy, also known as Avalokitheshvara, Bodhisattva of Universal Compassion.Penang Hill, named after the island, is the next stop of the tour. Take your time to admire the lush tropical forest, interlaced with hillside farms as you ascend the hill in a quaint Swiss Funicular Railway, itself a unique hallmark of the hill. This quiet hilltop offers not only a soothing respite from the hustle and bustle of the city, but a panoramic view of the island and parts of the mainland.
Funicular railway ticket is included
