KUL Sign Festival

Graffiti has always been viewed more as a form of vandalism rather than art for as long as one can remember. Though the art of graffiti drawing is also a branch of creative art, it is rarely viewed as such as most of the drawings are often offensive and gives a bad image of the city to tourists. In recent years, a group of passionate graffiti artists formed Kuala Lumpur’s own graffiti community to show the public the bright side of graffiti art. This community has managed to convert the dreary looking walls along the banks of River Klang into a long sheet of masterpieces.

This 4th and 5th December 2010 will see a gathering of budding artists from KL’s graffiti community as well as international artists from the U.S, Britain and other European and Asian countries in Kuala Lumpur. They will display their works of art along the River Klang and within the vicinity of the Pasar Seni LRT station at the KUL Signs event. Organised by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) and co-organised by The Super Sunday, this event promises its visitors an unforgettable experience with great activities and lots of prizes. Amongst the international guest artists who will be present at the festival is Aroe & Roid of Heavy Arttilary from UK as well as local graffiti artists like Kioue of the Super Sunday, They & Bibichin of the Thalanjang Family, Katun of Phobia Klik, Nuke of Phiberwryte and Anokayer of Medium Touch. Some of the activities that are lined up for both days include a graffiti painting at the walls of River Klang, a talk session given by both local and international established graffiti artists about the origins of graffiti and other interesting facts as well as a photography competition. The event is held from 9.00am till 5.00pm on 4th December and from 9.00am till 11.00pm on 5th December.
